Why there is no number on this page
You will find sites that advertise average settlement figures. They are close to meaningless.
The range in this category is enormous, the published figures are selected rather than
representative, and no two claims share the facts that drive value.
Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Every case is decided on its own facts.
What actually affects it
- Which institution is responsible, and what its records show it knew.
- How long it went on and how many people were affected by the same failure.
- The documented harm, treatment, work history, the effect over a life rather
than at the time. - Whether the institution is public or private, which changes both the legal
framework and the practical route to resolution. - Insurance and solvency. An unglamorous factor that decides more outcomes than
people expect.
How fees work
These claims are taken on a contingency fee: the fee is a percentage of any recovery, and there
is no fee if there is no recovery. You are not asked for money to start, and you would be told the
percentage in writing before anything is agreed.
What a claim is for
Compensation is the mechanism, but it is rarely the whole reason people bring these claims. For
many the point is that an institution has to answer, in a forum it does not control, for something
it has never had to account for.
This page describes Illinois law in general terms. It is not legal advice and it cannot tell you whether your own claim is in time, that depends on facts this page does not know. A conversation costs nothing and will give you a real answer.
